What is Chiropractic BioPhysics?

Depending on the patient’s findings, a CBP-based program may combine adjustments with corrective exercises and spinal traction. What does structural correction mean?
Structural correction refers to a treatment approach intended to address measurable postural or spinal alignment findings rather than focusing exclusively on temporary symptom relief. The goal is to work toward improvements that can be objectively reassessed over time. Recommendations depend on the patient’s examination, health history, goals, and other clinically relevant findings.
What is forward-head posture?
Forward-head posture describes a position in which the head rests farther forward relative to the shoulders and torso. It is commonly associated with prolonged computer work, phone use, sitting habits, and other factors, although posture varies considerably from person to person. A posture evaluation can help determine whether forward-head positioning is present and whether it is clinically relevant to an individual’s concerns.
Why are normal spinal curves important?
The spine naturally has curves in the neck, mid-back, and lower back. These curves contribute to the spine’s overall structure and its ability to distribute mechanical loads during everyday activities. Changes in spinal curvature do not automatically mean that someone will experience pain, but they may be considered along with posture, movement, symptoms, examination findings, and other clinical information when evaluating spinal function.
How do you measure posture and spinal alignment?
Posture can be evaluated using objective measurements of the body’s position and alignment. The examination may look at the relationship of the head, shoulders, spine, pelvis, and other anatomical landmarks. When clinically appropriate, X-rays may provide additional information about spinal alignment and curvature. These measurements are interpreted together with the patient’s history, symptoms, and physical examination.
What are Mirror Image® exercises?
Mirror Image® exercises are used within Chiropractic BioPhysics to encourage movement or positioning in a direction intended to counter an identified postural pattern. The exercises prescribed depend on the patient’s individual findings. Because different people have different postural patterns, exercises should be selected and demonstrated specifically for the individual rather than assumed to be appropriate for everyone.
What is corrective spinal traction?
Corrective spinal traction is a procedure that uses controlled positioning and forces with the goal of addressing certain spinal alignment or postural findings. Does every patient receive traction?
No. Traction is not automatically appropriate for every patient. Is CBP traction painful?

How long does a CBP posture-correction program take?

How often will I need to attend appointments?

A corrective phase may involve more frequent appointments than maintenance or wellness care because the program may combine several procedures and require regular progression. Your recommended schedule should be based on your examination findings, treatment goals, and response to care rather than a predetermined schedule applied to everyone.
Can posture actually change in adults?
Certain aspects of posture and spinal alignment may change in adults, although the degree and rate of change vary considerably between individuals. Age, health, the nature of the postural finding, consistency with recommended care, and other factors can influence progress. Because results vary, specific changes cannot be promised in advance.
How do you know whether the program is working?
Progress should be evaluated using both subjective and objective information. This may include changes in symptoms and daily function as well as repeat measurements of posture, mobility, or other findings identified during the initial examination. When clinically appropriate, additional imaging may also be considered. Reassessment helps determine whether the care plan should be continued, modified, or concluded.
When will my posture or spinal alignment be reassessed?
The timing of reassessment depends on the individual care plan and the findings being monitored. Rather than relying only on how a patient feels from day to day, periodic evaluations can provide objective information about progress. Will I receive exercises to perform at home?
Home exercises may be recommended when they are appropriate for your findings and treatment goals. These may be intended to support mobility, posture, strength, or other aspects of your care. Because exercises that are appropriate for one postural pattern may not be appropriate for another, patients should follow the individualized instructions provided by the office.
Can CBP help someone who has already tried chiropractic care?
Previous chiropractic treatment does not necessarily determine whether a CBP-based approach is appropriate. Because CBP places particular emphasis on objective posture and spinal alignment measurements, the evaluation may examine factors that were not addressed during previous care. An examination is necessary to determine whether this approach is appropriate and what realistic goals may be established.
Is CBP appropriate for older adults?
Age alone does not determine whether someone is an appropriate candidate for CBP-based care. An older adult’s bone health, medical history, mobility, previous surgeries, medications, examination findings, and other factors may influence which procedures are appropriate. Techniques and treatment intensity should be adapted to the individual.
Is CBP appropriate after an automobile collision?
CBP principles may sometimes be incorporated into care following an automobile collision, but treatment depends on the nature of the injuries and the patient’s examination findings. The initial priority is to appropriately evaluate the injury and identify any conditions requiring medical attention or additional diagnostic testing. Corrective procedures should only be considered when clinically appropriate for that patient and stage of recovery.
What happens after the corrective phase is completed?
After a corrective phase, the patient’s progress can be reassessed and compared with the initial findings. Depending on the results and the patient’s goals, recommendations may shift toward home exercises, healthy movement and posture habits, periodic supportive care, or another individualized strategy. Completing a corrective program does not guarantee that future symptoms or postural changes will never occur.
